TWA Hotel

A former flight center becomes the heart of an airport hotel.

Stylized architectural study of TWA Hotel
FIELD NOTES / 02

The jet age, preserved

Architecture · Location · Character

The architecture

Eero Saarinen’s 1962 TWA Flight Center forms the public centerpiece. Its sweeping concrete shapes and sunken lounge retain the optimism of mid-century aviation design.

Inside the property

Two hotel wings behind the historic building contain 512 rooms. The separation allows the original flight center to remain the visual focus.

Location & surroundings

Located at JFK Airport, the hotel is connected to Terminal 5 through the historic flight tubes. Runway views are part of its airport setting.

Details that define it

Museum displays cover TWA and the jet age. A restored Lockheed Constellation has a second life as a lounge, and the rooftop pool looks toward the runways.
