Atlantic modernism

Architecture · Location · Character

The architecture

Designed by Todd Saunders, the inn combines an angular form with supports that echo local outport building traditions. Its relationship to the uneven coastline is central to its identity.

Inside the property

The inn has 29 rooms and suites, with ocean views and locally rooted furniture and textiles. It is a small property whose design connects contemporary architecture with island craft.

Location & surroundings

Fogo Island lies off Newfoundland. The surrounding ocean and island communities provide the context for the building, rather than a dense urban district.

Details that define it

The inn describes a community-focused model in which operating surpluses are reinvested locally.
