A palace on the water

Architecture · Location · Character

The architecture

Originally known as Jag Niwas, the palace was built in the eighteenth century for the Mewar royal family. Its island position makes the water part of every view of the exterior.

Inside the property

Taj describes 65 rooms and 18 suites. Cupolas, decorative windows and mirror work connect the interiors to the architectural traditions of the region.

Location & surroundings

The palace stands on Lake Pichola in Udaipur. Access by boat distinguishes it from the city’s shore-based hotels.

Details that define it

The building became a hotel in 1963. The current property combines its royal residential history with restaurants and wellness facilities.
